The KM3 or KO2 dilemma

BF Goodrich KM3 tires

I’ve always been a huge fan of BFGoodrich tires, so when it came time to replace the factory Goodyears, there was only one brand I considered.

The KM3 vs. KO2 Dilemma

Tires are a big investment, no matter the brand, and looks matter too. I debated between the KO2 and KM3 for what might be considered impractical reasons—Rebecca would be featured in videos and auto shows, so the more aggressive look won out. The Mud-Terrain tires performed well in every condition we put them through, and thanks to newer designs, rain and snow were no longer an issue. We did take a hit on fuel economy, but that was expected when switching from the lighter C-rated Goodyears to the D-rated BFGs.

Tire Life

Having used the older KM2s on past builds, I knew their soft compound provided great grip but wore out quickly, usually lasting around 20-30K miles. The KM3s, however, proved to be a solid improvement. We replaced them at 10K miles and sold the Bronco at 34K miles. After 24,000 miles of both off-road and on-road driving, they showed only 30-35% tread loss. While they were starting to get louder, I was impressed with their durability and wear.

What tires do you run, and how have they held up?
