2025 Ford Maverick Lobo: A Sport Truck With Retro Soul and Modern Muscle

This week, Ford handed us the keys to the new 2025 Maverick Lobo Edition. Aimed squarely at enthusiasts looking for a compact yet capable sport truck, the Lobo delivers plenty of punch with its finely tuned 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It produces ample horsepower to make this compact pickup feel genuinely exciting on the road.

Our test model came in a striking Shadow Black finish, complemented by gray interior accents and vibrant blue trim pieces. Inside, the Lobo strikes a strong first impression. The seating position is excellent, especially considering the accessible price point. The cabin features an 8-inch driver display and a large 13+ inch infotainment screen, offering a tech-forward experience typically found in more expensive vehicles.

One of the pleasant surprises during our long drive was the inclusion of heated seats—an appreciated luxury after hours on the road. The Maverick Lobo is more than just a lifestyle vehicle, though. With Pro Trailer Assist, it’s a truly usable pickup truck, capable of towing up to 2,000 pounds and handling a 1,500-pound payload.

The Lobo leans into retro vibes reminiscent of the sport pickups from the ’80s and ’90s. It rides slightly lower than the standard Maverick, features unique wheels and trim, and offers an array of readily available aftermarket accessories—allowing owners to truly make it their own.

Inside, the youthful energy continues with Grabber Blue accents and Electric Lime seat stitching, inspired by a Nike sneaker. One of the designers shared that they wanted to blend streetwear influence with automotive design to capture a fresh, urban feel.

On the road, the only notable drawback was the stock tires. On California’s rougher backroads, the ride was a bit bouncy. That said, most buyers will likely upgrade to their preferred tire brand anyway, so it’s not a major concern.

The sound system deserves its own shout-out. Ford equipped the Lobo with a B&O audio system that punches above its weight class, delivering deep bass and crisp treble that you wouldn’t expect at this price point.

As we wrap up our time with the Maverick Lobo, our overall impression is overwhelmingly positive. It’s fun, functional, and full of personality. We’d gladly take one as a long-term tester—and maybe even add one to the garage permanently. If you’re looking for a compact truck that combines modern efficiency with nostalgic cool, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo might just earn a spot in your driveway.
