Is the 2026 Ford Bronco Outer Banks the Better Luxury Buy Than the Filson?
A few weeks ago, Ford officially unveiled the all-new Filson Bronco, and our team was on hand in Seattle, Washington, to cover the launch firsthand. The Filson trim represents a more luxurious interpretation of the Bronco, blending Ford’s legendary off-road capability with Filson’s premium craftsmanship. From upgraded leather throughout the cabin to a more powerful engine and exclusive styling, Ford is clearly targeting buyers who want adventure without sacrificing refinement.
The introduction of the Filson raises an interesting question, though. Has the Bronco lineup always had a luxury model that simply hasn’t received the attention it deserves?
When the Bronco returned for the 2021 model year, the Outer Banks trim was introduced as the upscale choice. It featured painted fender flares, leather-trimmed seats with a baseball glove-inspired design, body-color accents, and creature comforts that weren’t available on the lower trims. At the time, the Outer Banks was designed for buyers who wanted the Bronco lifestyle without giving up comfort.
Fast forward five years, and it feels like Ford has shifted its focus. While the Outer Banks remains in the lineup, the Filson has become the new flagship luxury Bronco. That made us curious: how does a fully equipped 2026 Outer Banks compare to what we know about the upcoming Filson?
During the Filson launch, I had the opportunity to speak with Ford’s Michael Levine. At the time, he indicated the company hoped to keep pricing in the $70,000 range. As anyone who follows the industry knows, that usually translates into a real-world MSRP somewhere between $75,000 and $80,000 before taxes, fees, and dealer markups.
There’s no question the Filson brings features the Outer Banks simply can’t match. Buyers get the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, FOX suspension, exclusive interior materials, and unique styling elements that separate it from every other Bronco on the road.
However, when we built a 2026 Outer Banks as closely as possible to the Filson using Ford’s configurator, the price difference became impossible to ignore.
Even after selecting the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 10-speed automatic transmission, Sasquatch Package, and several premium options, the Outer Banks still comes in roughly $15,000 less than what we expect the Filson to cost. That’s a substantial gap for buyers whose primary goal is owning a comfortable, well-equipped Bronco rather than chasing maximum off-road performance.
The biggest question may not be whether the Filson is better. It probably is. The bigger question is whether it’s $15,000 better.
Dealer pricing could make that gap even larger.
History has shown that limited-allocation vehicles rarely sell at MSRP during their first year. Each Ford dealership is expected to receive only one Filson allocation initially, creating an environment where demand will almost certainly exceed supply. If recent specialty Ford launches are any indication, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some dealerships asking anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 over sticker.
If that happens, buyers could easily find themselves looking at an $85,000 to $100,000 Bronco.
Meanwhile, the Outer Banks is already available at dealerships across the country, and many dealers are willing to sell them at MSRP or even below. That alone makes it an attractive option for shoppers who want luxury without paying a premium simply because production is limited.
In the end, the 2026 Bronco Outer Banks may quietly remain one of the smartest buys in the Bronco lineup. For significantly less money, buyers can enjoy premium features, strong performance from the 2.7-liter EcoBoost, and enough comfort for everyday driving. Add a few custom touches from a quality upholstery shop or aftermarket supplier, and you can create a Bronco that feels every bit as upscale while still keeping thousands of dollars in your pocket.
The Filson will undoubtedly attract collectors and buyers who want the newest, most exclusive Bronco Ford has ever built. But for shoppers focused on value, the Outer Banks might just be the luxury Bronco that’s been hiding in plain sight all along.
