2026 Nissan Leaf: A New Chapter for the EV Pioneer

However, while Tesla continued to push the boundaries of innovation and driving range, Nissan’s progress with the Leaf stalled.

The second-generation Leaf arrived in 2018, featuring sharper styling and improved comfort, but it struggled to impress buyers, especially with a price tag in the mid-$30,000 range. In recent years, Nissan has shifted its focus toward newer models like the Ariya and upcoming EV platforms, leaving the Leaf somewhat sidelined.

That changed recently with news of a next-generation Leaf in development. And now, we can confirm—thanks to spy photos captured by Dave that the new Leaf has grown in size. Notably, its overall shape strongly resembles Tesla’s Model Y. From the sleek rear spoiler to the crossover-like proportions, the 2026 Leaf appears to draw direct inspiration from Tesla’s design language.

Up front, the new Leaf adopts Nissan’s latest design elements, including updated running lights and a refreshed V-Motion grille. But beyond the front fascia, the resemblance to the Model Y is striking.
